If ‘Friends’ Were Made in India: AI Recreates Rachel and Monica Wearing a Sari; Ross and Chandler in a Kurta

Ever wondered about giving a desi twist to your favorite television show? Imagine your favorite American sitcom starts dressed in colorful saris and kurtas; with a bindi and flowers in their hair? Look no further, your wishes have come true.
With the help of Artificial Intelligence, Instagram users Arjun Sajeev and Anandhu Shaljan recently created a series of images that imagine what the popular series “Friends” would look like, if it was shot in India. The images, posted on the Instagram page Imagin-AI-tion, show all six characters — Rachel Green, Monica Gellar, Ross Gellar, Phoebe Buffay, Mike Hannigan, Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani — dressed in extravagant Indian outfits.
Rachel and Monica dazzle in elegant saris, Phoebe dons a stylish suit. All three of them are also wearing matching jewelry. The pictures also show Ross and Chandler sporting vibrant kurtas while Joey is wearing a shirt layered over a t-shirt.
The photos have gone viral since they were posted last week.
