Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai: Beyoncé Wears Indian Designer Gaurav Gupta’s Outfits For Renaissance World Tour

  • In Charlotte, South Carolina, “Queen Bey” was seen in a pearl white bodysuit, while in Atlanta, she wore a neon green sari gown.

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, popularly known as “Queen Bey,” chose Indian designer Gaurav Gupta’s outfits for her shows this weekend. The singer is currently on her Renaissance World Tour to promote her seventh studio album “Renaissance.” At her concert in Atlanta, Georgia on Aug. 11, she wore a sari gown from Gupta’s  Hiranyagarbha Paris Couture Week Autumn Winter 23/24 collection. A day earlier in Charlotte, South Carolina, she was seen in a pearl white bodysuit. Gupta shared pictures from both concerts on social media.

In an Instagram post, Gupta called Beyoncé “an absolute epitome of hope, infinity, and freedom,” whose “presence, aura and magnanimity spreads freedom and power in the world.” Their custom made Infinity Crystal Bodysuit for the singer was “inspired by the new logo of Gaurav Gupta Couture — keeping it true to her iconic Renaissance World Tour,” he wrote, adding that “this magical collaboration is a very beautiful personal moment for me, my team, and the brand.”

The singer’s sleeveless bodysuit had a structured swirl statement sleeve extending down her entire torso, a cut-out with see-through mesh at the waist, shimmering sequin embellishments, high-leg cut-outs, and a body-hugging silhouette. The 41-year-old completed her look with handmade legging boots by Gupta’s label, with a pointed front, high heels, matching sequin and beaded decorations, and a form-fitting style. She paired it with see-through criss-cross mesh stockings, shimmering gold body glitter, a silver bracelet, diamond rings, embellished diamond ear cuffs, and neon green high heels.

Gupta has “always been fascinated and enamored by the history of the sari and the more than 600 different ways it is traditionally draped in India,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “We, at Gaurav Gupta, are deeply inspired by this almost mythological tradition of drape and have tried to interpret and innovate with it in our own sculptural ways.” He said the singer shined in her opening look, “in ethereal electricity, chiffon drapes of Athena with Orbiting satin sculpting.”

Beyonce’s neon green sari gown had a one-shoulder neckline, swirl structures, a flowy skirt with a floor-grazing hem length, full front thigh-slit, a cape structure on the back with a hood covering her head, and a floor-sweeping train. She wore the sari gown with see-through criss-cross mesh stockings, shimmering gold body glitter, a silver bracelet, diamond rings, embellished diamond ear cuffs, and neon green high heels.

A leader in couture and experiential space design for the last 18 years, Gupta has carved his own new world in the global couture space. His website describes him as “future primitive,” and calls his design language “a composition of what might be and what was.” In the last few years, he has grown a significant celebrity follower base in the U.S. and beyond. Earlier this year, he was the genius behind the “Endless Swirl Gown,” which the vivacious singer Lizzo wore for the poster of her HBO Max documentary “Lizzo- Live in Concert.” His website said the custom gown, a continuation of the designs in his latest collection “Scarlet Fascinations,” has “a rich, scarlet hue with dramatic, sculptural frills and delicate beaded embellishments.”

Last year, rapper Megan Thee Stallion made her Oscar debut in a Gaurav Gupta a slivery-blue gown inspired by marine ecology. A few days earlier, Cardi B chose to wear the designer’s custom sculpted number crafted in nude diaphanous organza for the remix video of “No Love.” Other international celebrities who have recently worn Gaurav Gupta creations to events include Bebe Rexha, Bingbing Fan, Kylie Minogue, Jeremy Pope, and Maluma, among others.
