Punjabi actor Aman Dhaliwal, who was attacked in the parking lot of a Planet Fitness gym in Grand Oaks, California, last week, is recovering. The 41-year-old, who lives in Riverside, sustained multiple injuries from the knife and hatchet used by the assailant Ronald Chand, 30, of Santa Ana, according to a Corona Police press release.
A model-turned-actor, Dhaliwal has starred in Punjabi and Hindi films including “Ik Kudi Punjab Di,” “Ajj De Ranjhe,” “Jodhaa Akbar” and “Big Brother.”
Both men ended up inside the gym, where a video of the incident, shared widely on social media, shows the assailant attacking Dhaliwal with a knife and threatening other gym-goers. While inside, Chand is seen holding Dhaliwal at knifepoint for a short time before being taken to the ground by the victim and disarmed and detained with the assistance of bystanders.
Dhaliwal was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment for the non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. Since the attack, messages have been posted from Dhaliwal’s Facebook account. “I am not able to speak much due to the doctor’s advice so excuse me for not attending calls but I’ll reply back as soon I feel better … spread love not hate.”
Chand sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized as well, according to the Corona Police. He was transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center and booked for Attempted Murder, with a bail of $1,000,000.
