Trump Chooses Flame-Throwing Republican Attorney Harmeet Dhillon to Deal With Jan. 6 Committee’s Subpoena
- He may have been impressed by her appearances on Fox News where she gives hosts Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson a run for their money.
When he was in the White House, Donald Trump had the habit of picking up people he liked watching on Fox News for jobs in the administration, including Dr. Scott W. Atlas who briefly served as coronavirus czar with calamitous consequences. That’s how he may have found Sidney Powell, a former federal prosecutor and attorney, to spearhead his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
It’s quite possible, that is also how Trump may have discovered Harmeet Dhillon, a flame-throwing Republican who appears frequently on Fox News, often giving hosts Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson a run for their money in their attacks against Democrats and support for all things Trump.
The former president has hired The Dhillon Law Group, a San Francisco-based firm headed by Dhillon, to represent him in dealing with the Jan. 6 House select committee’s subpoena of him. Politico, which first broke the story, reported that the Dhillon Law Group is tasked with negotiating the terms of the Trump subpoena to appear before the committee.
The committee issued a subpoena on Friday for testimony and documents from the former president, requesting that he testify under oath on or about Nov. 14, The Washington Post reported.
Harmeet Dhillon, who already represents several witnesses who have been summoned by the committee, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn, is the former vice chairwoman of the California Republican Party, and a National Committeewoman of the Republican National Committee for California.
Unlike Trump’s other choices of attorneys to represent him, who often proved to be ineffective or just incompetent, Dhillon may be a better bet considering that she has solid professional credentials.
Dhillon has been an acerbic critic of the liberals and an entrenched advocate of Republican pet causes, real and imaginary. In 2017, Dhillon filed a lawsuit against the University of California, Berkeley for canceling conservative provocateur Ann Coulter’s speech on the campus, citing security reasons. She has often intervened in cases to defend embattled Republican politicos and their causes in California, the bluest state there is.
The 54-year-old Dhillon who was born in Punjab, India, is a devout Sikh, who delivered a Sikh prayer during the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland. According to a profile in heavy.com, “Dhillon has been married three times. She was first in an arranged marriage, which ended after the man abused her. She was then married to Dr. Kanwarjit Singh. In 2011, she married her third husband, Sarvjit Randhawa.”
Dhillon has often been a victim of racial profiling, facing abuse after being mistaken for a Hindu and a Muslim. She has been a relentless defender of the civil rights of the Sikh community, particularly after 9/11 when the Sikhs were mistakenly targeted.
