Maya Kurien Named Vice President of Advocacy in Government Team at Real Estate Board of New York

Maya Kurien has been named vice president of advocacy in the government team at the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY). She was formerly vice president of policy and planning of the trade association for the real estate industry in New York City. In that role, “she advanced the organization’s policy development, analysis and advocacy efforts at the city, state and federal levels,” according to her REBNY profile.

Before joining REBNY, she served as executive director of Government Affairs for the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD). She also worked at the New York City Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and as an aide to State Senator Brad Hoylman.

Kurien started her career in public service as an aide to then-Council Member Jessica Lappin. A native New Yorker, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Anthropology and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of London.
