Indian American Raj Subramaniam Named President and CEO of FedEx Corporation

  • He has more than 30 years of industry experience at FedEx, and has held various leadership roles in operations and marketing across its portfolio of operating companies.

The FedEx Corporation has named Raj Subramaniam as its new president and CEO, the package-delivery company announced today, March 28. He was previously serving as the company‚Äôs president and COO. The Indian American replaces Fred Smith who will step down from the post on June 1. 

In his new role, Subramaniam is responsible for providing strategic direction for all FedEx operating companies, according to a FedEx press release. ‚ÄúHe is a member of the five-person Executive Committee, which plans and executes the corporation‚Äôs strategic business activities,‚ÄĚ the press release said. Additionally, he is a member of the FedEx Strategic Management Committee, ‚Äúa select group of the company‚Äôs top leadership, which sets the strategic direction for the enterprise.‚ÄĚ

Subramaniam, 56, now joins an elite club of India-born executives, including Twitter‚Äôs Parag Agrawal, Google‚Äôs Sundar Pichai, IBM‚Äôs Arvind Krishna, Microsoft‚Äôs Satya Nadella, Adobe‚Äôs Shantanu Narayen, Amway Global‚Äôs Milind Pant, Nokia‚Äôs Rajeev Suri, Veeam’s Anand Eswaran, and VMware‚Äôs Raghu Raghuram.

He has more than 30 years of industry experience at FedEx and has held various leadership roles in operations and marketing across its portfolio of operating companies. ‚ÄúHe is responsible for several recent transformational initiatives, including revitalizing the company‚Äôs operating strategy, profitably growing the e-commerce business, and harnessing the power of global supply chain data to drive the company‚Äôs digital transformation,‚ÄĚ the press release said.

Originally from Trivandrum, Subramaniam lives in Memphis, Tennessee ‚Äď the company‚Äôs global headquarters. He earned a bachelor‚Äôs degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), a master‚Äôs degree in chemical engineering from Syracuse University, and a master‚Äôs degree in business administration from The University of Texas at Austin. 

He serves on the board of directors of FedEx Corporation, First Horizon Corporation, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s China Center Advisory Board, FIRST, U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum, and the U.S.-China Business Council. He is also a member of the International Trade Administration’s Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness (ACSCC).
