Indian American Namrata Mujumdar Named Special Assistant to President for Economic Agency Personnel

  • The former Treasury Department official will replace Linda Shim, who is leaving the White House later this month.

Namrata Mujumdar is joining the White House as special assistant to the president for economic agency personnel in the Presidential Personnel Office, Politico has reported. She most recently has been the lead for policy outreach for the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund at the Treasury Department. In that role “she led the program’s engagement with recipient governments, the public, and stakeholder organizations including government associations, think tanks, and community organizations,” according to her Treasury Department profile. At the White House, she replaces Linda Shim, who is leaving later this month.

Mujumdar has over 15 years of experience advising leaders at the highest level of federal and state government and leading early-stage startups, her LinkedIn profile says. She has served in the Obama administration as an appointee at the Treasury Department “where she led effective legislative strategies with lasting impact ranging from Senate confirmations for appointees to high-stakes negotiations for the debt ceiling and fiscal cliff,” per her LinkedIn profile.

She also advised leaders on Capitol Hill and the Governor of Ohio on the federal and state budget, economic stimulus, and economic recovery. She has experience as a staffer on Capitol Hill as well, for both the House Budget Committee and as a senior member of the Appropriations Committee.

She co-founded FUND: THIS, a peer-to-peer fundraising platform for campaigns with enthusiastic supporters who want to help them win. “The tech startup that was backed by private investors and served a variety of users including candidates for public office, political action committees, and activists to raise money and impact political movements,” her LinkedIn bios added.
