Musical Maestro A.R. Rahman to Perform at the Prudential Center in New Jersey in August

Music maestro A.R. Rahman will perform in New Jersey this summer. The Aug. 12 performance at the Prudential Center in Newark is part of the composer and singerâs âAll Access American Tour.â The concert tour will begin in Seattle, Washington, on July 17, and end on Aug. 27 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, according to Rahmanâs Facebook page. Rahman and his troupe will perform his popular songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English.
His works are notable for integrating Eastern classical music with electronic music sounds, world music genres and traditional orchestral arrangements. Rahman has won two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South in addition to numerous other awards and nominations. He is the recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri (Indiaâs fourth-highest civilian award) in the year 2000 for his outstanding contribution to the Indian film industry. In 2009, TIME Magazine placed Rahman in its list of âWorld’s Most Influential People.â
Rahman came into the limelight in 1991, when noted filmmaker Mani Ratnam offered Rahman âRoja,â which was a runaway success. Rahman continued giving superheats with âGentleman,â âThiruda Thiruda,â âKaadhalan,â âBombayâ and âMinssara Kannavu,â which were all dubbed in Hindi.
Other hits in Tamil include âAlaipayuthey, Kandukondein Kandukondein,â âJeans,â âMudalvan,â âKannathil Muthamittal,â and âBoys,â among others.
His foray into Hindi movies started off with the superhit âRangeela, followed by âDil Se,â âTaal,â â1947/Earth,â âPukar,â âLagaan,â âZubeida,â âMeenaxi,â âThe Legend of Bhagat Singh,â âYuva,â âTehzeeb,âand âRang De Basanti.â
In 2001, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber invited Rahman to compose for the musical âBombay Dreams,â which opened to packed houses at London’s West end. The show had an unprecedented run for two years and later premiered on Broadway. Rahman is involved in charitable causes as well. In 2004, he was appointed as the Global Ambassador of the Stop T B Partnership, a project by the World Health Organization (WHO). He also supports charities like Save the Children, India.
