Indians Take to Social Media to Slam Modi Government for Mismanaging COVID Response
- They blame the BJP government for the second surge, for allowing overcrowded, unmasked Kumbh Mela, election rallies.
Indians are taking to social media to slam Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP-led government for their mishandling the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that’s ravaging the country right now. The hashtag #ResignModi is trending on desi Twitter as netizens want Modi to resign for disastrous handling of the current surge and instead focusing on elections in West Bengal. Most also got a lot of slack for allowing millions to attend the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. Many took to social media to question the Modi government on how it let the overcrowded and unmasked election rallies and religious congregations continue. Many called out Modi’s hypocrisy to let election rallies continue amid the surge. Some decried the double standards meted out to Hindus who were allowed to attend the Kumbh Mela in alarming numbers, while there’s apparent restriction on Muslims to gather during Ramadan which they are currently observing.

I appeal to everyone to keep Kumbh Mela symbolic due to coronavirus crisis.
PM on 17/4 at Asansol rally:
I see huge crowds of people .. have witnessed such a rally for the first time… Today, you have shown your power.
Clearly megalomania follows no logic.

If there’s a political rally why TF would you jeopardise your health and that of others you care about anyway?

The kumbh mela comes after 12 years so it was to come in 2022 …. then y did the govt in central and state approve it in 2021….

they should now take the responsibility for deaths and #COVID19 spread

With BJP the simplest explanation is always electoral. UP election due next Feb would’ve preceded the #KumbhMela. Moreover they probably thought optics would help in current elections too. All told they’ve ended up with #COVID chaos.

People are freely moving between Maharashtra & Karnataka. State borders are not monitored enough. Inter state & inter district travel should be stopped for a while.

Why is Ramzan being compared to the great Kumbh Mela? Where are 3.5 million people gathering for iftaar? So strange.
